The training focused on improving the skills and knowledge of Welthungerhilfe WASH staff in delivering effective WASH promotion in schools while working with learners as partners in promoting hygiene and sanitation in field locations.
The training processes took a total of 6 days; four days’ in-house rehearsal activities and one-day of field practice in one of the schools and another day for action planning.The training adopted diverse participatory training methods including; group works, presentations, plenary sessions, role plays, rehearsals and demonstrations of every activity. The outdoor visit involved practical exposure of the trainees to the classroom environment with the children to appreciate the dividend that can be accrued from the application of the CHAST method and the associated challenges.
The operationalisation of the skills and knowledge acquired during the training was supported by drawing a comprehensive CHAST based action plan for trainees to apply the approach. And a pre and post-test evaluation was conducted to ascertain the level of learning among participants.
